3 Great Weekend Trips to Take Before School Starts
Summer may seem like it’s flying by, but there’s no better time than now to schedule some last-minute late summer vacations. There are plenty of weekends left in July and August before school starts, so start making your plans to visit these three unforgettable weekend getaways today.
Cuyahoga Valley National Park
Cuyahoga is a relatively new national park — it didn’t become a national park until 2000 — but it’s one of the most beautiful in the country too. Admire the 60-foot-tall Brandywine Falls, hike the 100 miles of trails, ride the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad or just kick back and cast a line into the Cuyahoga River. There are primitive campsites on the park grounds, but if you’re looking for a place to park your RV, the nearby Findley State Park and Portage Lakes State Park are RV-friendly options.
Mackinac Island
Cruise up to northern Michigan and leave your RV in Mackinaw City while you hop aboard a ferry to the island that allows bikes and horse-drawn carriages but not cars. Rent some bikes and cruise around the island, visit the Grand Hotel or shop for souvenirs, ice cream and fudge in the quaint, historic shops.
The Kerr House Spa
Spent a little too much time outdoors this summer? Cruise up to the Kerr House Spa — Ohio’s favorite spa retreat. This Victorian mansion in the city of Grand Rapids, Ohio, has been turned into one of the finest luxury spa retreats in the country. Spend your weekend being pampered by the staff or get out and enjoy some of the area’s restaurants, shops, outdoor activities and more. There’s simply no better way to squeeze in a little more relaxation before the non-stop action of the school year starts.
